Introduction to Social Media

Social Media has transform the way that we communicate with our friends, family, acquaintances, business places and even our enemies. Social media while it has evolved quite a bit have kept to its true meaning which is to provide a means by which persons can communicate with each other. While social media was used mainly by young persons, the older generation eventually got a hang of this addictive technology.

Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and recently Snapchat, have become household names, such that most persons can't go a day without going on one of these sites. Mobile phones have made it easier for persons to stay connected throughout the day, receiving notifications of new post.

Facebook, the largest and most popular social media platform provide opportunities for everyone. Gamers can use Facebook to play games with their friends. Public figures, organizations, businesses, etc. can create pages that allows them to provide their followers with information. Depending on the type of page, the information disseminated can take various formats. While this creates huge opportunities to interact with fans and customers it can also prove fatal to an organization, if not managed properly.
